Klarenstraat Amsterdam

For a renovation project in the U.J. Klarenstraat in Amsterdam the floor system of fermacell, JK floorheating and Uzin Utz Netherlands has been applied.

In this Collective Private Commissioning project 40 post-war apartments have been transformed into 30 unique residences of new construction quality. Van Schagen Architects from Rotterdam incorporated the floor into the basic design of the post-war apartments; residents had to ‘finish’ the rest themselves.

The fermacell 2E26 Floor Element consists of two layers of gypsum fibreboard (each 12.5 [mm]) with underneath a 9 [mm] felt layer. Inside this, JK floorheating has customisedly and without dust ground the slots, into which the floorheating pipes (JK flextube) have been placed. Thanks to the low temperature heating system less energy is needed to reach optimal climate control. In the past years the realisation has grown that this way of heating is more comfortable. The residences score at least energy label A; before renovation they scored energy label D/E. The project has been nominated for the ARC2014 Architecture Award.
